Born in England, raised in Canada and now living in Australia, I love travelling and experiencing new cultures. On Family Forays, I share our family travel experiences (in Australia and overseas) as well as provide travel advice, sanity-saving tips and feature family-friendly destinations.

There’s not too many places which combine a beach and city break but Novotel Newcastle Beach offers both.

The hotel is located in Newcastle CBD close to shopping and dining options but located only 100 metres to Newcastle Beach. It’s the ideal place to explore historic Newcastle and experience its famous beaches.

Rooms

The rooms are large and comfortable and ideal for families. We’ve organised two King rooms and we’re impressed with the set up. It’s two studio rooms connected with an outer door. Perfect for a parents room and separate kids rooms. By propping up the studio doors, my daughter is able to run between them. The rooms have everything you need. As you would expect from a Novotel hotel, the beds are large and comfortable.

There’s also Family Rooms available which feature a Queen Bed and 2 singles to accommodate the family in one room.

If you would like a room with a view, some rooms at Novotel Newcastle Beach offer ocean and harbourside views.

Hotel Amenities

The pool features a gym, heated spa pool and steam room. But with the beach 100 metres away, who needs them?

Dining

One of the highlights of our stay was eating at Bistro Dalby. We visit first for dinner and are impressed as soon as we start reading the menu. After much deliberation,  I choose a Scotch Fillet while my husband orders the Lamb Roulade. Our meals arrive and we start eating. My steak is incredible and cooked to perfection. It’s one of the best tasting steaks I’ve had in years and I polish it off quickly along with the accompanying vegetables.

Hubby is quickly devouring his lamb so I grab a mouthful before it disappears. It’s delicious as well.

Our daughter is enjoying her fish and chips meal off the kids menu. (The kids menu has a great range of healthy and delicious dishes to choose from).

The waiter then asks if we want to order dessert. My answer should be “no” but then I spot the double chocolate pistachio brownie on the menu and it’s a lost cause.

Bistro Dalby is a kid-friendly restaurant serving lunch and dinner. Dinner starts at 6:00pm which is perfect for those who wish to eat earlier with kids. We also return the next morning for breakfast for a buffet breakfast which was delicious. However, offerings were limited on the day that we visited.

After breakfast, we check out and decide to spend a few hours at Newcastle Beach and walk around to Nobbys Beach.

We’ve enjoyed our stay experiencing the Novotel Newcastle Beach. It’s a great city beach break.
